ACCE Joins AAMI to Focus on Mobile Health Issues

The American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE) has signed on as a supporter of the new fall 2012 edition of Horizons magazine, which focuses on mobile healthcare.

The award-winning magazine is a publication of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). The issue—Mobile Health: The Revolution Has Started. Are You Ready?—provides in-depth research articles on the latest practices and challenges in mobile healthcare devices, as well as advice and practical tips from manufacturers, regulators, clinicians, and wireless experts.

Horizons reaches more than 10,000 medical technology professionals, including all AAMI members, as well as attendees at biomedical association meetings and industry events over the next year. The publication will also be distributed at AAMI's Annual Conference & Expo in Long Beach, CA, June 1-3, 2013.

The ACCE is one of six national healthcare organizations that signed on as a supporting organization to Horizons. The others are:

  • ECRI Institute
  • The Wi-Fi Alliance
  • The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME)
  • The Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS)
  • The Medical Device Innovation, Safety and Security Consortium (MDISS)

As supporters, these organizations will promote the publication to their members and customers to help expand the visibility of the articles and issues.

"This broad-based collaboration with six significant organizations underscores our decision to ensure improved quality of care and patient outcomes through mobile health technologies," says AAMI President Mary Logan.

The publication, now available at the AAMI marketplace, covers topics such as:

  • Connecting mobile medical devices
  • Clinical perspectives of mobile health in the U.S. and abroad
  • New technologies and mHealth device and software design
  • Testing, implementation, and interoperability
  • Security and the regulatory perspective
